Save Money By Finding A Bra That Fits

Tired of constantly purchasing a bra that is either too loose or too tight? Perhaps, you have not figured out your perfect size yet. Do not worry, you are not alone! I was once lost in the sea of under wires, push-ups, and strapless undergarments as well. But, I turned things around by following these steps:

1. FIND THE PERFECT SIZE

The foundation of this journey is to find the right size of your brassiere. Start by determining your band size.

While wearing a bra, measure around the bottom of it directly under your bust. Round the measure to the nearest whole number. If the number is even, add four inches and if the number is odd, add five inches. The sum will become your band size. For instance, you measured 33 inches then, your band size is 38.

The second step is to determine your bust measurement. Wrap the tape measure a bit loosely around the fullest part of your chest. Then, round the measure to the nearest whole number. Lastly, calculate your cup size by subtracting your band size from your bust size. Then, refer to this chart to know your cup size.

2. FIND THE RIGHT STYLE

Now that you had discovered your perfect size, you can move on to finding the right style. Take note of three things namely: the cut, the fabric, and the color. The cut can be full cup, half cup, or camisole style. The fabric can be cotton, silk, or lace. And, the color can resemble any part of the rainbow! Find the right style that will fit not only most of your outfits but also most of the occasions.

3. SEEK HELP FROM THE SALESPERSON

If you still feel completely confused and lost then, it is time to ask the salesperson’s help. Helping you find the perfect bra is part of their job. Also, you may ask if there is a professional fitter in the shop to help you check your measurements. Then, test the recommended bra yourself.

4. WASH WITH CARE

It is important to wash your undergarments with care. In fact, bras made with nylon and cotton do not do well in the heat of your dryer. A better alternative is to hang them to the air dryer or to wash them inside the laundry mesh bags. You can purchase cheap laundry bags at Daiso. Also, remember to fasten the bra to prevent the hooks from clinging on to delicate sweaters.

Practice One Virtue That Can Definitely Increase Your Savings

As the Japanese Proverb once scribed: “Money grows on the tree of patience.”

Yes! One virtue, practiced religiously, that can definitely increase your savings and even increase the odds of success is none other than: Patience. Why is that so?

1. PATIENCE BOOSTS YOUR DISCIPLINE

Applying patience to overcome instant gratification is important in financial success. If you are an impulsive over-spender, establish a waiting day rule of at least 30 days on any purchases. The new items you have been eyeing on will go on the waiting list. This will not only help you to develop patience but also to help you filter out which ones you need and which ones you don’t.

2. PATIENCE HELPS YOU RESIST THE TEMPTATION

If the temptation of spending is overwhelming, try discussing financial matters to your bank. You may ask them to make automated payments or to put restrictions into your savings account and credit card. Once the convenience of spending is out of sight, it will be out of mind.

3. PATIENCE ALLOWS YOU TO LOOK FOR OTHER OPTIONS

Sadly, in a world that hates delayed gratification, impatience costs people cold hard cash. If you are willing to wait instead of purchasing immediately, you are able to compare prices within other shops and to find cheaper options while you are it. Patience gives you the opportunity to wait for the greatest sales, huge markdowns, and bargain deals that will help you save a lot!

4. PATIENCE ALLOWS YOUR MONEY TO GROW

The longer you keep your money, the more you will make of it. Elevation in your wealth each year is possible because of compounding. Compounding is the addition of interest to the principal of a deposit. Read more about the compounding power, here.

5. PATIENCE SHARPENS YOUR CONSCIOUS SPENDING

Patience sharpens and shapes your conscious spending by letting you realize the worth of each item. Ask yourself in the present time: “At my age, what matters to me the most?“

If you are willing to wait for a purchase then, you consider that item as important. And if it is that important…surely…it is worth the wait.

Household Items You Should Not Be Spending Too Much On

Whether you are living alone or you have kids, it can be difficult to manage your finances regardless of how much you make. One of the best ways to improve your situation is to trim your daily costs. Figure out what exactly you are paying for by knowing which things you are spending too much on.

Reduce your household items spending by following these tips:

1. PAPER TOWELS

Instead of buying paper towels constantly as they ran out, purchase Scotch-Brite’s sponge clothes for S$3.50 at Fairprice. This is an amazing product that wipes as a paper towel or a cloth but absorbs like a sponge. All you have to do is to cut one piece in two to make the most of your dollar. Since you can reuse it, this will last you for a month or so. Not only did you help clean your kitchen but you also help save Mother Nature.

2. COFFEE FILTERS

A pack of disposable coffee filters can cost you as low as S$2, which you have to restock depending on your needs. Thankfully, they have invented the reusable coffee filters. You can purchase in Qoo10 for as low as S$8.90 S$11. It can save you so much in the long run!

3. COOKING AND BAKING MOLDS

No need to buy perfectly shaped molds for your cookie dough, meatballs, or patties. Use well-cleaned Styrofoam egg cartons instead. Place the ingredients inside to help you freeze each individual portion. Also, you can use this cartoon for potting a small seedling for your garden or for arranging your golf and table tennis balls.

4. COMMERCIAL CLEANERS

You can save more by making your own yet effective counter and shower cleaner mix. For the kitchen counter cleaner, all you have to do is mix water with 5% of vinegar.

For the shower cleaner, simply mix three parts water to one-part vinegar in a spray bottle. Add a few drops of essential oil for an enticing scent. This is useful for the tub, shower door, and walls.

BONUS: WRAPPING PAPER

Use your old fabrics to make a reusable gift bag to substitute for a wrapping paper. Kids would throw the wrapping paper anyway! Just cut one rectangle off the fabric then one long one for the “ribbon”. Sew through the fabric seams. Get the full instructions, here.

3 Ways To Go To An ArtScience Museum Exhibition (MBS) For Free

ArtScience Museum located at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is the world’s first museum that focuses mainly on Art and Science. Exhibitions in this building exude creativity and curiosity as well as the role of these characteristics in shaping our society.

You might have seen the building from afar because of its iconic shape that has “10 fingers” anchored by a unique round base in the middle. The modern and exquisite detailing is perfect for the central themes of the museum. That said, you must visit it at least once.

If you are on a budget, you are in luck! Some exhibitions in the museum are free! You read that right. Not everything in MBS is expensive.

1. PICK UP YOUR FREE-ENTRY TICKET AT THE MUSEUM BOX OFFICE

To celebrate SG50 and Straits Times’ 170th anniversary, ArtScience Museum is showcasing an exhibition on their behalf that is free – for all visitors! From now until October 4, 2015, you must pick up your free-entry tickets to the “Singapore STories: Then, Now, Tomorrow Exhibition” at the museum foyer.

Straits Times (ST) has been the longest running English newspaper in the Lion City.

The exhibition recaptures the tales of our nation since ST’s founding in 1845 through significant articles, headlines, and pictures (i.e., including ones that the public has never been seen before). Imagine having to squeeze and filter through more than 40,000 issues of the newspaper just to give us the best ones! Furthermore, they added a futuristic element by envisioning what Singapore would be like 50 years down the road.

What I liked most about the exhibition are the interactive activities such as testing your knowledge on the Singaporean acronyms, sliding the pictures to see the before and after shots of different infrastructures, and the complementary paper dress-up wherein you can lean more about the different types of Singaporean dresses (e.g., Cheongsam, Sari, and Baju Kurung).

2. TAKE YOUR KIDS ON A FRIDAY FAMILY DAY

Every Fridays, families with children can enjoy enriching and engaging exhibitions for free. Only the children (maximum of four) of an adult who purchased a standard ticket will be given the free passes on the same exhibition/s. For the child to be honored with the free-entry ticket, he or she must be 12 years old or under. Furthermore, all tickets are issued for the same day at the museum box office only.

Imagine how much fun your children and your wallet would have when you take them to the DreamWorks Animation Exhibition or The Deep Exhibition. Not only are these exhibitions educational but also they are also interactive.
