Dublin, Ireland
Dublin is teeming with culture, charm and architecture. Beyond the effortless style of its monuments and buildings, Dublin offers breath-taking natural beauty in its coastline, countryside and mountains. If the weather is in your favour, you are around an hour’s drive from County Wicklow’s spectacular beaches of Brittas Bay and Silver Strand. The stunning Wicklow Mountains are also must.
Following Paris, Nice is the next most well-loved French city by tourists. Located along the Mediterranean, the Promenade des Anglais is one tourist attraction you cannot miss out on, as it boasts a beautiful view of the Mediterranean sea. Pay a visit to Vieux Nice, Nice’s historic town which retains its layout from the 1700s, and is now packed with delis, restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Prague ranks amongst the top five most popular European city due to its rich history and culture that is reflected in their architectural wonders. Ranging from Gothic to Renaissance to Baroque architecture, the city is a feast for the eyes, especially for those of us who live in concrete jungles. Take a walk down the Charles Bridge and you are instantly transported into a scene straight out of a medieval film. Be sure to head to the Old Town Hall and find the famous astronomical clock before 12 noon, and marvel at this 600 year old clock chime as the clock strikes 12.
With a history that dates all the way back to 4000 BC, Skopje has weathered through Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rule. Remnants of its vast history can be found at the 5th century Tvrdina Kale Fortress and the 15th century Kameni Most Stone Bridge. Nature lovers can head to the Matka Canyon and take a boat ride out to Lake Matka, where tour guides will lead you to explore caves.
Yet another European country that is rich in history and culture, the main highlight of Kyiv is an 11th century monastery built by monks, the Pechersk Lavra. Expect to be wowed by the elaborate and ostentatious decorations in the monastery, and the caves where the monks are buried are also a must to visit. Another UNESCO World Heritage to visit is the Saint Sophia Cathedral where the biggest preserved collection of mosaics and frescoes of that 11th century reside.
